Alan Howard
Summary
Alan MacKenzie Howard, CBE, is an English actor known for his roles on stage, television and film.
He was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company from 1966 to 1983, and played leading roles at the Royal National Theatre between 1992 and 2000.
Biography
personal life
Howard is the only son of the actor Arthur Howard and his wife Jean Compton . He was educated at the independent school Ardingly College, in the village of Ardingly in West Sussex.He is the nephew of Leslie Howard and the casting director Irene Howard. On his mother's side he is also a great-nephew of the actress Fay Compton. and the novelist Sir Compton Mackenzie.
He first married actress and theatre designer Stephanie Hinchcliff Davies in 1965 . He married his long term partner Sally Beauman in 2004 and they have one son and one grandchild.
He was appointed CBE in 1998.
